Replying, reacting and @mentions

In a busy chat or community, it helps to respond to a specific message rather than just adding a new one at the bottom.

  • Reply to a message to quote it, so it's clear what you're responding to.
  • React to a message with an emoji — a quick way to say you saw it, agree, or send encouragement without writing anything.
  • @mention someone by name to make sure they notice your message, even in a muted chat. Muting a chat doesn't stop you being notified when someone @mentions you — see Muting a chat or community.

These work the same way in one-to-one chats and in communities, making it easier to keep a conversation readable even when a lot of people are talking at once.
