Community Guidelines

InterChat exists so believers can connect, pray and grow together. These guidelines describe the kind of place we want it to be. They apply everywhere on InterChat: chats, communities, Prayer Rooms, stories, the Prayer Wall, comments and profiles. Community leaders can add their own rules, but they can't allow anything these guidelines forbid.

"Let all that you do be done in love." (1 Corinthians 16:14)

What we ask of everyone

1. Love one another Speak with kindness, even when you disagree. Encourage more than you correct. Assume the best about people.

2. Disagree with grace Christians hold different views on doctrine, worship and practice. Discussion is welcome. Mocking, insulting or attacking someone for their denomination, tradition or questions is not. People exploring the faith are welcome here and should be treated with patience.

3. Be who you say you are Use your real identity. Don't pretend to be someone else, including a pastor, prophet, church, ministry or InterChat staff.

4. Protect what's shared in trust Prayer requests and Prayer Rooms are sacred spaces. Don't screenshot, record or share someone's prayer, testimony or private message to embarrass or expose them. Ask before sharing someone else's story, and don't post other people's private details (health, addresses, phone numbers, family problems) without their permission.

5. Keep it safe for everyone InterChat is used by teenagers, families and older believers. Post what you'd be comfortable sharing in a church gathering.

What's not allowed

Harassment and bullying No threats, intimidation, repeated unwanted contact, insults, shaming, or encouraging others to target someone. No sharing private information about someone to harm them ("doxxing").

Hate No content that attacks or dehumanises people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, tribe, caste, sex, gender, disability, illness, age or religion, including people of other faiths or no faith.

Violence and dangerous activity No threats of violence, praise of violent acts or groups, or instructions that could seriously hurt people. No content that encourages self-harm or suicide. If someone shares that they're struggling, respond with care, and encourage them to reach out to people near them and to local emergency services or a crisis line if they're in danger.

Sexual content No nudity, pornography, sexual solicitation or sexually explicit content. Discussions of sexuality, marriage and purity are welcome when they are respectful and not explicit.

Child safety (zero tolerance) Anything that sexualises, grooms, exploits or endangers a child is banned and will be reported to the authorities. Adults must not seek private contact with children they don't know. See our Child Safety Standards.

Scams, fraud and money requests No fake "prayer fees", "seed offerings" demanded for blessings or miracles, fake ministries or charities, investment or crypto schemes, loan or job scams, or pressuring people to send money. Never send money to someone you haven't verified. Legitimate churches and ministries may share how to give, but never through pressure, threats, or promises of healing or wealth in exchange for payment.

Spam and manipulation No bulk or repeated unwanted messages, chain messages that threaten harm if not forwarded, fake engagement, misleading links, or creating communities or accounts mainly to advertise.

Misinformation that causes harm No false information that could cause real harm, such as telling people to stop medical treatment, fake emergency alerts, or impersonated announcements from churches or authorities.

Illegal content and activity No content that breaks the law, such as selling drugs or weapons, or sharing content you don't have the rights to (for example, full copies of copyrighted books, sermons or songs). See our Copyright Policy.

Graphic content No gory or shocking images or videos. News of persecution or tragedy can be shared for prayer, but with care and without graphic images.

In Prayer Rooms

  • Take turns. Raise your hand ✋ when you'd like to pray, and unmute when it's your turn.
  • Keep prayers focused on the room's purpose. Hosts may gently guide the room.
  • Don't record or rebroadcast a Prayer Room.
  • Hosts and co-hosts: use mute and remove fairly, and only when needed.

For community leaders

If you create or run a community, you help keep it healthy:

  • Write clear rules that fit these guidelines, and enforce them consistently.
  • Welcome new members and keep discussions on topic.
  • Act on problems: remove harmful messages, mute or remove people who break the rules, and report serious issues to us.
  • Don't use your role to pressure members, collect money deceptively, or share members' information outside InterChat without their permission.

Reporting

If you see something that breaks these guidelines, report it:

  • A message: long-press it → Report.
  • A person: open their profile → ⋯ → Report. You can also Block them.
  • A community: Community info → Report community.
  • A story: ⋯ → Report story.
  • A prayer request or comment: ⋮ → Report.

Reports are confidential: we don't tell the person who reported them. For urgent safety concerns, email safety@interchathq.com. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

What happens when guidelines are broken

Depending on how serious it is, and whether it has happened before, we may:

  1. remove the content;
  2. send a warning;
  3. limit features for a time (for example, messaging, creating communities or opening Prayer Rooms);
  4. suspend the account;
  5. permanently ban the account, and the person's other accounts;
  6. report to law enforcement where the law requires it or someone is at risk.

Content can be hidden automatically once it receives enough reports, until a moderator reviews it. If you believe we got it wrong, you can appeal within 30 days by emailing safety@interchathq.com with your username and what happened.

These guidelines may change as InterChat grows. We'll let you know about important changes in the app.
